    Our Avance Latino team and board members recently came together for a special lunch to celebrate and bid farewell to our beloved Executive Director, Dorima Hamilton.

    Dorima has been with Avance Latino since the very beginning in 2015, playing a vital role in building and leading the organization with heart, vision, and unwavering dedication.

    After nearly 10 incredible years, she is now being promoted to the most important role of all—full-time mom. We are deeply grateful for her years of service, leadership, and the legacy she leaves behind. Thank you, Dorima, for everything!

  • Online Financial Literacy Workshop For Students With EPIC

    We partnered with EPIC to lead an engaging online workshop for students titled "The 5 Things Every Young Person Should Know About Money." We covered essential topics such as credit, budgeting and saving, investing, and the importance of investing in themselves.

    The students were highly engaged, asking thoughtful questions and sharing their own experiences. One student even impressed us by sharing, “VOO is a fund that follows the stock market—it’s really good. I’ve been invested in it for the last two years and gained around 30%.”

    Moments like these remind us why early financial education is so important—young people are more than ready to take control of their future.

  • Bringing Hope to the Streets During Times of Unrest

    Our CEO, who also serves as a dedicated pastor, was out in the heart of the community during the LA protests. Amid the tension and uncertainty, he walked the streets offering hope, encouragement, and spiritual support to those hurting and searching for peace. His presence reminded many that even in moments of unrest, compassion and unity can shine through. Through prayer and conversation, he brought a calming voice and a message rooted in faith, reminding our communities that we are not alone and that healing is possible when we come together with purpose and love.

  • Shark Tank Night Event at Paramount High School

    We were honored to be invited to the Shark Tank Night Event at Paramount High School, where our Program Director Josh Rincon served as a judge alongside our valued partners George Sevilla from Citizens Business Bank and Adam Marquez from SMBC MANUBANK.

    The event featured around 40 students, who pitched their business ideas with creativity and confidence. As judges, we provided thoughtful feedback and guidance, helping students think more critically about entrepreneurship, presentation, and financial planning.

    It was an inspiring evening that showcased the innovative spirit of these young minds and reflected our ongoing commitment to supporting youth as they explore business and career pathways.

  • Virtual CalKids Workshop for Parents at Waite Middle School

    We partnered with Jason Hamilton from Keep It Simple Financial to host an online workshop for parents from Waite Middle School in the Norwalk-La Mirada School District, focused on the CalKIDS program—California’s free money initiative to help families start saving for college.

    During the session, we walked parents through how the program works, who qualifies, how to access their child’s account, and why it’s so important to start planning early for higher education.

    In partnership with Evelyn Z. and Rosie from HSBC Bank, we hosted a Spanish-language workshop for parents at Lynwood High School focused on Budgeting and Saving.

    The session offered practical tools and strategies to help families take control of their finances, from setting a household budget to building healthy saving habits. Parents were highly engaged, asking questions and sharing personal experiences, which created a supportive and collaborative environment.

  • 6 Impactful Workshops at Bellflower High School

    April 29-30

    Over the course of two days, we led six dynamic workshops at Bellflower High School, connecting with over 150 students to explore the essential truths about managing money as a young adult.

    The session, “The Five Things Every Young Person Needs to Know About Money,” was more than just an introduction to personal finance—it was an invitation to think differently about their future. Students learned how to make smart money decisions, the importance of budgeting and saving, how credit cards really work, and how to avoid common financial traps. We emphasized how time is their greatest ally when it comes to investing, and how starting early—even with small amounts—can lead to long-term financial freedom.

    Through real-life examples and interactive discussions, we empowered students with the mindset and tools to take control of their finances and build a brighter future.

  • Parents Workshop at Lynwood High School

    We had the opportunity to teach an engaging workshop for parents at Lynwood High School focused on the important topic of Credit.

    During the session, we broke down the essentials—what credit is, how credit scores work, why they matter, and how to build and maintain good credit. Parents asked thoughtful questions and were eager to learn how to better manage their finances and support their families' financial well-being.

    It was a meaningful and empowering conversation, helping parents feel more confident navigating the credit system and making informed financial decisions for the future.

  • Job Tank at Bellflower High School

    We were honored to be invited to a Job Tank event at Bellflower High School, where we worked with over 200 students to help prepare them for their professional futures.

    In partnership with Carissa, Dillon, and Hayana from First Citizens Bank; Henry from Wells Fargo; Kevin and Eli from Banc of California; and Zhemyr, Alejandra Corona, and Norma Hernandez from Chase Bank, we participated in mock interviews, reviewed résumés, and gave students direct feedback on their presentation skills.

    The students came prepared, dressed professionally, and ready to showcase their goals and experiences. It was powerful to see their confidence grow as they received real-time guidance from professionals in the field. This experience gave students a glimpse of the real world and the tools to approach it with more clarity and confidence.

  • Career Day at Waite Middle School

    We were honored to be invited to speak at Career Day at Waite Middle School, where we had the opportunity to share with four different classes—reaching 104 students in total.

    During our time there, we spoke about the mission and work of Avance Latino, as well as the different businesses and careers each of our team members are involved in. Our goal was to inspire students to dream big, explore different career paths, and understand the power of education, entrepreneurship, and community involvement.

    The students were engaged, curious, and full of potential—making it a truly uplifting experience.

  • Identity theft Workshop at Arts In Action Community Charter School

    We partnered with Evelyn Z. from HSBC Bank to host an online workshop in Spanish for parents from Arts In Action Community Charter School on the important topic of identity theft.

    Evelyn broke down how identity theft happens, how to prevent it, and what steps to take if someone becomes a victim. The workshop created a safe and engaging space for parents to ask questions and learn practical tips to protect themselves and their families.

    It was a powerful reminder that financial safety starts with knowledge and awareness.

    We recently organized a Health Fair Event focused on bringing the community together for a day of support, education, and wellness.

    With the help of multiple partner organizations, we provided families with access to valuable health resources, information, and services—all in one place. The event was filled with great energy, delicious food, and meaningful conversations that empowered attendees to take steps toward healthier lives.

    As a special highlight, we hosted a bike giveaway, surprising 10 lucky winners with brand new bicycles to promote active living. It was a beautiful day of unity, care, and community impact!

  • Emergency Fire Relief Fund: Supporting Families in Crisis

    Thanks to the generosity of our donors, we established an Emergency Fire Relief Fund to help families affected by the recent fires. We provided 50 families with $500 relief checks to assist with essential expenses like food, shelter, and clothing.

    The gratitude was overwhelming—many shared how this support eased their burden, allowing them to buy necessities and find temporary stability. Parents expressed their relief, knowing they could provide meals for their children, while others were able to secure safe lodging after losing their homes.

    Beyond financial assistance, this effort was about restoring hope. Seeing the smiles, hearing words of appreciation, and witnessing the resilience of these families reinforced the importance of standing together in times of crisis. Our community remains strong, united, and ready to uplift those in need.

    We wrapped up our six-part workshop series at Bellflower High School by teaching our final session on Auto Purchase to all four classes.

    We’re proud to share the success of our 5th Annual Business Conference, held at our headquarters, where business owners and entrepreneurs came together to learn, connect, and grow.     We had 121 people registered, with 82 attendees joining us in person. A post-event survey revealed a 100% positive satisfaction rate, highlighting the value and impact of the conference.

    This success was made possible through the support of our partners, including multiple financial institutions and organizations. Their collaboration ensured our attendees received valuable tools and guidance in areas like financial management and business growth.

    We presented an online workshop, How is Elon Musk Shaping the Future? examining how Musk’s ventures—Tesla, SpaceX, Neuralink, and The Boring Company—are transforming our economy and everyday life.

    We explored Tesla’s role in sustainable transportation, SpaceX’s innovations in space exploration, and Neuralink’s work with brain-computer interfaces.

    Additionally, we discussed how Musk’s entrepreneurial vision is accelerating global innovation and impacting industries, creating shifts that will shape our lives in the years to come.

    We taught the sixth workshop in our series at Glen A. Wilson High School through Mr. Rogan’s AVID class, focusing on an Introduction to Entrepreneurship.

    Students explored essential entrepreneurial concepts, from identifying business opportunities to understanding the basics of starting and managing a venture. They also began working on their capstone projects, applying what they’ve learned by pursuing a career or creating their own business plans and ideas, which they’ll present next week.

    This hands-on approach aimed to inspire students to think creatively about potential career paths and develop foundational skills for future success.

  • Inflation Workshop (Recession Update)

    We hosted an online workshop exploring the contrasting economic scenarios of hyperinflation and deflation, with a focus on why hyperinflation may be more probable in today's economy, particularly given the U.S. government’s rising debt.

    In this session, we unpacked key elements like monetary policy, examining how actions such as quantitative easing by central banks can increase the money supply and drive inflation. We also discussed the effects of high government debt levels, noting how inflation can sometimes alleviate these burdens. Additionally, we examined consumer behavior, contrasting the inflation-driven urge to spend with the deflationary mindset that can restrict economic growth.

    Using real-world examples, we highlighted how both scenarios impact income, debt, and financial stability, equipping viewers with a deeper understanding of these economic forces.

  • Faith Leaders' Dinner

    We hosted a faith leaders' dinner, bringing together representatives from over 10 churches across LA County and Orange County.

    It was a great opportunity to connect with these faith leaders and discuss how we can collaborate to make a greater impact in their communities. Together, we explored ways to bring our nonprofit's programs, such as the Wealth Academy and Business Development workshops, directly to their members.

    Our shared goal is to help build generational wealth by empowering individuals with financial literacy and entrepreneurial skills, strengthening the future of their communities.

    In our 2023-2024 Couple's Coaching cohort, We empowered couples to achieve financial stability and build a secure future together.

    With an average of 22 attendees (11 couples) per monthly workshop, we provided guidance on essential financial topics such as budgeting, saving, debt management, and goal setting. Through interactive sessions and personalized coaching, couples gained the tools and knowledge to make informed financial decisions, strengthen their financial partnerships, and work toward long-term financial success.

    This program aimed to foster not only financial security but also deeper collaboration and understanding within each relationship.

    We got invited by Zhemyr Diaz from JP Morgan Chase to have a booth at a Backpack Drive and Workshop event at La Puente Park.

    At the event, we shared valuable resources with nearly 50 attendees, including kids, teens, and adults. Alongside JP Morgan Chase, we distributed backpacks filled with essential school supplies, ensuring that participants were prepared for the upcoming school year.

    The event was a wonderful opportunity to connect with the community, provide support, and promote financial literacy among attendees of all ages.

  • First-Time Homebuyer Workshop

    We partnered with City National Bank , Chase , First Citizens Bank , Wells Fargo and NPHS Inc. to host a First-Time Homebuyer Workshop in Baldwin Park. With the help of LA Voice , we successfully brought together over 70 attendees, eager to learn about the home-buying process. The workshop covered everything from budgeting and mortgage options to finding the right home and closing the deal.

    Royal Business Bank was also present, offering valuable information about their $1,000 interest-free micro loans, connecting business owners with this opportunity. The entire event was conducted in Spanish, which was especially significant given the lack of Spanish-speaking resources in the community. This dedication to serving the Spanish-speaking population highlights our commitment to providing accessible and relevant support.

    We partnered with the City of Baldwin Park to use a room in their community center for the event, and we extend a special thanks to the Mayor, Emmanuel Estrada , for opening the doors and supporting this initiative. Our collective efforts aimed to empower attendees with the knowledge and resources needed to make informed decisions and achieve their dream of homeownership & build generational wealth.

  • Backpack Giveaway and Workshop With Kids From Eagle Lake Camp

    Shoutout to Royal Business Bank for helping us prepare 100 backpacks & bags with schools supplies for students. Thanks to the generous financial support from Pacific Premier Bank we were able to provide essential school supplies and backpacks to students in our community, ensuring they have the tools they need to succeed in their education.

    In addition to the backpacks filled with supplies, Royal Business Bank conducted a mini workshop for 50+ students on "Saving Money and Understanding Wants vs. Needs," imparting valuable financial skills to the children. This partnership not only aimed to equip young minds with practical knowledge in financial management but also enhanced their camp experience by providing necessary resources.

    Together, we are committed to making a positive impact in the lives of these children, fostering both their educational growth and financial literacy.
